and explore his work and concepts
-Students will take Haring’s example and
brainstorm an issue or value that they feel is important to bring awareness to
or comment on
-Students will discuss important issues going on
in the world, current events, historic events, family values, personal values,
hopeful visions
-Students will illustrate a chosen value or message
-Students will learn how to create and use a
stencil
-Students will wear their t-shirts to send a
visual message to the public
-Students will present and critique each students
t-shirt to see if their message was successfully communicated
-Students will understand the importance of art
as a way to get ideas across and spread a message

-I will demonstrate how to brainstorm ideas in a
sketchbook, decide on a specific topic or issue and how to illustrate it so
that the message is clear -I will demonstrate how to turn the illustration
into a stencil -I will demonstrate how to transfer this stencil
on a t-shirt
• Student independent practice/activity
-Students will brainstorm, sketch, and illustrate
their chosen topic and then transfer that image onto a T-shirt to wear as a
wearable, pubic work of art
-Students wear and present their T-shirts to the
class -Class discussion of the visual arts

Strategies

-Formative: participate in discussion, brainstorm
and write down ideas, work on several sketches, work diligently on drawing
-Summative: completed T-shirt, well-designed and
thought out illustration
-Discussions:examine different issues and values, talk about each persons
topic and their illustration for that topic.
-Critique: we will critique each student’s final
draft drawing before they are screened onto the shirts
-Exhibit: The students will exhibit their works of
art by wearing their t-shirts and critique how successfully their idea or
statement was communicated.
